Tuesday's Tunes

Susan Park

Doesn't this song make you feel like you're running through the streets with 40 of your closest friends, smiling and laughing with the sun shining on your face? Kind of like that girl in the Dr. Pepper commercial who's wandering along the road, singing a tune, and feeling super empowered when all of a sudden she's surrounded by a ton of people who somehow know the lyrics to the song she's jamming to. One day, that's what life will really be like; I'll be taking a stroll down Clarendon Boulevard, bopping along to Geronimo and picking up people along the way to sing with me. Point is, this song rocks- totally cheerful and makes me feel like I can conquer the world! I hope it makes your Tuesday even brighter.

For me, music is everything. It feeds and rejuvenates my soul;  it makes it glow. If my life were a movie, each memory would be a scene accompanied by background music - ya know what I mean? Like for instance, "Caring is Creepy" by The Shins is forever linked to my memory of the first day of fall during my freshman year of college; walking to class, bundled in a sweater, red leaves rolling over my boots, and my coffee in hand. The song, blasting through my earphones and I was smiling at the excitement of a new season and a new adventure (shortly before I tripped over my own feet and spilled said hot coffee all over myself but that's just the story of my life). Ten years later and that song still ignites feelings of the crisp, fall air and the anticipation of new beginnings.  My brain attached that song to the memory of that day with a paperclip and filed it away somewhere deep in my mind. Now, when I listen to that song, I'm brought back to those exact feelings.

My latest addiction is...

Did you listen to it? I mean...does it get anymore fall than that?! Music illustrates feelings in ways that words can't. For me, fall is heavy with whimsical energy: possibilities, shy smiles, secrets, and excitement- this song captures it all.
